NDIS Respite Care Services in Adelaide
Care Assure provides NDIS respite care in Adelaide through Short Term Accommodation (STA) and Medium Term Accommodation (MTA). Respite stays are in our Supported Independent Living homes, with registered nurse oversight on every care plan.

NDIS Respite Care in Adelaide
Care Assure provides NDIS respite care across greater Adelaide. Respite gives participants a supported break away from home and gives carers time to rest. Under the NDIS, respite is funded through two accommodation types depending on how long you need to stay.
Care Assure delivers both. Our Adelaide respite homes operate with registered nurse care plan oversight, meaning a nurse writes and reviews the care plan before any participant arrives. This clinical standard is not universal among respite providers in Adelaide.
Two Types of NDIS Respite Accommodation in Adelaide
The type of respite you need depends on how long you will stay and why. Both are funded under Core Supports in your NDIS plan.
Short Term Accommodation (STA)
STA is respite for stays of up to 14 consecutive days, with a maximum of 28 days per year. It covers accommodation, meals, personal care, and activities. STA is the most common form of NDIS respite in Adelaide, used when a carer needs a break, when a participant wants to experience supported living away from home, or when a family needs planned relief.
Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)
MTA is a transitional respite for stays of up to 90 days. It is used when a participant has a confirmed permanent home but cannot yet move in, is waiting for an SDA vacancy, is discharging from the hospital, or while home modifications are being completed. MTA covers accommodation only. Personal care and daily support are funded separately.
Our Adelaide Respite Homes
Care Assure operates Supported Independent Living homes across Adelaide. Respite is available at each of them, subject to room availability. Our team will confirm which homes have a room free for your dates and which best match your support needs.
Where You Stay During Respite
Care Assure respite is delivered in our Supported Independent Living homes across Adelaide. You stay in a bedroom in one of these homes, sharing the living areas, kitchen, and outdoor space with the permanent residents.
This is a deliberate choice. It means:
- Support is already operating: Support workers are on shift 24 hours a day for the permanent residents. Your care is delivered by a team that already knows the home.
- Clinical oversight is not reduced for short stays: The registered nurse who writes and reviews care plans for the permanent residents writes yours too, before you arrive.
- You can trial supported living properly: If you are considering SIL, a respite stay in an actual SIL home with actual residents tells you far more than a tour of an empty facility.
- Availability is checked at booking: Respite depends on a room being free in a home that suits your support needs. Call us, and we will confirm which options are available for your dates.

What Care Assure's Adelaide Respite Care Includes

- Personal care: Assistance with hygiene, dressing, grooming, and medication management as set out in your care plan.

Why Choose Care Assure for Respite Care in Adelaide?
Adelaide has a substantial NDIS respite market. Here is what makes Care Assure the right choice for participants, families, and support coordinators.
- Both STA and MTA from one provider: Many Adelaide respite providers offer STA only. If your stay extends beyond 14 days or your circumstances change, Care Assure can transition you to MTA without a new provider relationship.

- Registered nurse authors every care plan: The same clinical standard applied to our permanent residents applies to respite participants. Not standard across Adelaide respite providers.

- Respite in homes that already run 24-hour support: You are supported by a team that works in that home every day, not staff rostered in for a short booking.
![icon]()
- Emergency placements by phone: Direct phone line for urgent respite. We do not run an online only intake process for emergencies.

- Respite as a real pathway to SIL: Participants considering supported living can stay in an actual Care Assure SIL home before deciding. If it suits, the transition to permanent residency is straightforward: same home, same team, same nurse.

- Full NDIS service network: Care Assure also provides SIL, in-home care, complex care and community participation in Adelaide, with SDA housing through our partner Care Casa. If respite leads to a permanent housing conversation, you already have a provider who knows you.

- NDIS and NIISQ registered: Dual registration. Fully compliant with all NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission practice standards.

- Award-winning provider since 2019: Champion Awards 2025 Winner. Citizen of the Year 2025. Governor's Multicultural Awards 2022.

Emergency Respite Care in Adelaide
Care Assure accepts emergency respite bookings in Adelaide, subject to room availability. Emergencies happen; a carer may become suddenly ill, be hospitalised, or face a family crisis. When they do, participants need somewhere safe and supported within hours, not weeks.
Call (08) 7071 9276 directly for emergency placements. Do not use the contact form for urgent requests. Because our respite homes already provide 24-hour support, we can often place a participant more quickly than a provider that needs to roster staff for a booking. Our intake team will check which of our Adelaide homes has a room free.
If the participant does not currently have STA funding in their plan, their support coordinator or LAC can access unplanned support provisions.
Who Can Access NDIS Respite Care in Adelaide?
Respite care is available to NDIS participants of any age with STA or MTA funding in their plan. If STA or MTA is not currently in your NDIS plan, your support coordinator or LAC can request a plan review to add it. For urgent situations, unplanned support may be available.
You may be eligible if:
- Your carer needs time to rest, travel, or manage their own health
- You want to experience supported living away from home before committing to SIL
- You are waiting for an SDA or SIL vacancy and need transitional accommodation
- You are being discharged from the hospital, but your permanent home is not ready
- Home modifications are underway, and your house is temporarily uninhabitable
- Your current living arrangement has broken down, and you need a bridge to a longer-term solution
Respite is delivered in our shared Supported Independent Living homes. If you have very high physical support needs requiring specialist equipment, call our team first so we can discuss whether our SIL homes can meet your requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Where does Care Assure provide respite care in Adelaide?
Care Assure provides respite care in its Supported Independent Living homes across greater Adelaide. Availability depends on a room being free in a home that matches your support needs. Call (08) 7071 9276 and our team will confirm which homes are open for your dates.
- Where will I stay during respite care?
You stay in a bedroom within one of Care Assure's Supported Independent Living homes, alongside the permanent residents who live there. Support workers are on shift 24 hours a day, and a registered nurse oversees every care plan in the home. You have your own private bedroom and share living areas, kitchen, and outdoor space.
- Will I be staying with permanent residents?
Yes. Care Assure respite is delivered in our supported homes, which means you share living areas with the participants who live there permanently. Our team introduces you to the household before your stay begins. For many participants, this is an advantage, because it gives a realistic experience of supported living rather than a stay in an empty facility.
- What is the difference between STA and MTA?
STA is a short-term respite of up to 14 consecutive days, with a maximum of 28 days per year, covering accommodation, meals, personal care, and activities. MTA is transitional housing for up to 90 days for participants waiting for a permanent home, covering accommodation only. Both are funded under Core Supports in your NDIS plan.
- Can I book emergency respite care in Adelaide?
Yes, subject to room availability. Call (08) 7071 9276 directly for emergency respite. Do not use the contact form for urgent requests. Because our respite homes already provide 24-hour support, we can often place a participant more quickly than a provider that needs to roster staff for a booking. If STA funding is not in the participant's plan, a support coordinator or LAC can access unplanned support provisions.
- Can respite lead to permanent supported living?
Often, yes. Because Care Assure respite is delivered in our actual SIL homes, a respite stay is a genuine trial of supported living. Participants who decide SIL is right for them can transition to permanent residency in the same home, with the same support team and registered nurse, if a vacancy is available. Speak to our team about this pathway before your stay.
- How many days of respite can I access per year?
Standard STA funding allows up to 28 days per year with a maximum of 14 consecutive days per booking. MTA allows up to 90 days for transitional accommodation. Your individual NDIS plan may allocate more or less depending on your assessed needs. Your plan manager can confirm your allocation.
- Can children access respite care in Adelaide?
Yes. Respite care is available to NDIS participants of all ages, including children and young people with disabilities. Care Assure's support workers receive training specific to each placement, and families are involved in planning the stay before the first night.
