Fully Accessible SDA Housing
Fully Accessible is an NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation design category for participants with significant physical impairment who need a home that is fully wheelchair accessible. Care Assure provides Fully Accessible SDA homes across South Australia and Tasmania.

What is Fully Accessible SDA?
Fully Accessible is one of four Specialist Disability Accommodation design categories set by the NDIS. It is built for participants with significant physical impairment who need a home designed for wheelchair use in every room, not just the entrance and bathroom.
The category sits between Improved Liveability and High Physical Support. A Fully Accessible home removes the physical barriers that make standard housing unusable for a wheelchair user, without the ceiling hoists and backup power that define High Physical Support. For many wheelchair users, it is the category that gives them a genuinely independent home.
Fully Accessible is one of the four categories explained on our Specialist Disability Accommodation hub. The category funded in your NDIS plan determines which homes you can move into.
What Features Do Fully Accessible SDA Homes Have?
Fully Accessible homes are built to strict NDIS requirements, with wheelchair access throughout the home. These are the features that define the category.
- Step-free access: Level entry to the home and level transitions between every room, with no steps or thresholds to cross.
- Wider doorways and hallways: Sized for a powered wheelchair to move and turn throughout the home, not just at the entrance.
- Accessible bathrooms: Roll-in showers, accessible toilets, and space for a wheelchair and a support worker to assist.
- Accessible kitchen: Bench heights, clearances, and layouts that let a wheelchair user prepare meals independently.
- Height-adjustable and reachable fittings: Switches, controls, and storage placed within reach from a seated position.
- Circulation space throughout: Room to move and turn a wheelchair in bedrooms, living areas, and every part of the home.
- Accessible outdoor areas: Level, usable outdoor space connected to the home without barriers.
Every Care Assure Fully Accessible home is enrolled with the NDIS as Fully Accessible and built or modified to meet these requirements.

Who is Fully Accessible SDA For?
Fully Accessible is funded for participants with significant physical impairments who use wheelchairs. It is likely to be the right category for you if the points below describe your situation.
- You use a wheelchair and need a home that is accessible in every room.
- You want to live independently, but standard housing has physical barriers you cannot cross.
- You do not need the ceiling hoists or backup power that define High Physical Support.
- You need accessible bathroom and kitchen facilities to manage daily life.

Fully Accessible must be the design category named in your NDIS plan. If you are unsure which category you are funded for, or your needs have changed, our team can help you understand your options before you apply.

How Fully Accessible Differs from the Other SDA Design Categories
There are four SDA design categories. Fully Accessible focuses on wheelchair access without the specialised equipment required for High Physical Support. The category funded in your plan reflects your specific assessed needs.
| Design Category | Built For | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Improved Liveability | Sensory, cognitive, or lower physical needs | Better lighting, sight lines, orientation |
| Fully Accessible | Significant physical impairment, wheelchair use | Wheelchair accessible throughout |
| High Physical Support | Extreme functional impairment, specialist equipment | Hoists, backup power, automation |
| Robust | Complex behaviours, need for a secure home | Reinforced, resilient, impact-resistant |
How Support Works in a Fully Accessible Home
SDA funds the home itself, including all fully accessible design features. It does not fund the support workers who assist you inside it, which are funded separately.
Daily support in a Fully Accessible home is funded through Supported Independent Living or your Core Supports budget. Care Assure can provide that support with registered nurse oversight, or you can use another provider. Our team explains what each home includes.

How to Apply for Fully Accessible SDA
Moving into a Fully Accessible home takes four steps, from confirming your funding to moving in. Care Assure guides you through each stage and can support your NDIS evidence.

Check that your NDIS plan names Fully Accessible as your design category. It has specific criteria and evidence requirements.

Call (08) 7071 9276, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm. Tell us your location and support needs. We confirm the current Fully Accessible availability.

Arrange a visit with your family or support coordinator. Test the access in person and check the fit before deciding.

Once you accept a home, we coordinate your move and arrange your daily support as part of your SDA tenancy.
