SDA in Tasmania — Specialist Disability Accommodation
Care Assure provides NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation across Tasmania, with SDA homes in greater Hobart and the Launceston region. Our properties include High Physical Support and Robust design categories, purpose-built to the NDIS design standard.

NDIS SDA Housing Across Tasmania
Specialist Disability Accommodation is NDIS-funded housing for participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs, funded under the Capital Supports budget. Tasmania has a small number of registered SDA providers, which makes purpose-built accommodation genuinely hard to find in the state.
Care Assure operates SDA homes in both the south and the north of Tasmania. That statewide presence matters because it means participants in Hobart and the Launceston region can find a purpose-built home without leaving Tasmania or waiting indefinitely for scarce stock.

SDA Housing Only - How Support Works
SDA funds the home itself. It does not fund the support workers who assist you inside it. Care Assure's Tasmanian properties are SDA housing, and daily support is arranged separately, so it is worth understanding how the two fit together before you apply.
If you need daily living assistance alongside your SDA home, that support is funded through Supported Independent Living or your Core Supports budget, and can be delivered by Care Assure or another provider. Our team explains clearly what each home includes and how to arrange support, so there are no surprises after you move in.

SDA Design Categories in Tasmania
Care Assure's Tasmanian homes are concentrated in the two design categories most in demand in the state. The category funded in your NDIS plan determines which homes you can move into.
- High Physical Support: The highest specification category, with ceiling hoists, backup power, and built-in assistive technology. Most of our Tasmanian portfolio is HPS. Read more about High Physical Support SDA.
- Robust: A resilient, secure home for participants who need it, including those with complex behaviours. Read more about Robust SDA.

SDA Vacancies Across Tasmania
Care Assure lists the available Specialist Disability Accommodation across Hobart and the Launceston region below, with the design category and accessibility for each home. Given how limited SDA is in Tasmania, contact us early, even before a vacancy shows.
Who Our Tasmanian SDA Homes Suit
SDA is funded for participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Our Tasmanian homes are likely to suit you if the points below apply.
- You have SDA funding in your NDIS plan under the High Physical Support or Robust design category
- You want a purpose-built, accessible home in Tasmania rather than relocating interstate for suitable housing
- You use a wheelchair or rely on equipment that needs backup power (High Physical Support home)
- You need a secure, resilient environment that still supports independence (Robust home)
- You are discharging from Royal Hobart or Launceston General Hospital and need a purpose-built home to return to
If you do not have SDA funding yet, or you are unsure which category applies, call our team before you apply. Given how limited SDA supply is in Tasmania, early contact is worthwhile even before your funding is confirmed.

Arrange a visit with your family or support coordinator. See the property, meet the team, and check the fit before deciding.

Once you accept a home, we coordinate your move and, if you need daily support, help you arrange SIL alongside your SDA tenancy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Where does Care Assure provide SDA in Tasmania?
Care Assure operates SDA homes across greater Hobart and the Launceston region, covering both the south and the north of the state. Most are High Physical Support and Robust design category homes. Call (08) 7071 9276 to check current availability in each area.
- Is there daily support in the Tasmanian SDA homes?
SDA funds the home, not the support workers. Care Assure's Tasmanian properties are SDA housing, and daily support is arranged separately through SIL or your Core Supports budget. Our team explains what each home includes and helps you arrange support.
- What SDA design categories are available in Tasmania?
Mainly High Physical Support and Robust. High Physical Support is the highest specification category, with ceiling hoists and backup power. Robust is a secure, resilient home. You need the matching category approved in your NDIS plan.
- Is SDA hard to find in Tasmania?
Yes. Tasmania has few registered SDA providers, and purpose-built stock is limited, especially in the north. Care Assure is one of the few operating across both Hobart and the Launceston region. Because supply is tight, we recommend contacting us early, even before your funding is confirmed.
- Can I get SDA in Tasmania instead of moving interstate?
Yes. Care Assure's statewide SDA presence means participants can find a purpose-built home in Tasmania rather than relocating to the mainland for suitable accommodation, keeping them near family and community.
