Before the participants are approved for NDIS support, they go through a planning phase with their NDIS planner. Discussing their home and living goals to help them live as independently as possible. The right NDIS-approved home can influence the quality of living for the participants. Also, NDIS Independent Living Options are highly dependent on the following factors.
- How close the participant would like to live to their friends or family?

Are you looking to explore NDIS Housing or living arrangement options? Our Care Assure specialists team has broken down the support options to help you understand better and choose the right option for yourself.
1. Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Supported Independent Living, commonly known as SIL, is a home and living support option designed for NDIS participants to maximise their independence with assistance. This includes engaging in activities and programs that help participants achieve their life and career goals. SIL accommodation often involves sharing housing with other participants while receiving support in activities such as:- Cooking
- Shopping
- Money management
- Exploring hobbies and interests
- Participating in outdoor activities
2. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)
SDA is a home and living option for NDIS participants with high or extreme functional impairment needs. Usually, SDA involves sharing a home with a small number of individuals also on an NDIS plan. SDA funding covers the cost of an individual’s building, home, or unit, though participants may still be responsible for rent or other personal costs.3. Individualised Living Option (ILO)
ILO is a flexible home and living option for participants who want to live alone or in co-residency arrangements. It allows participants to:- Live with family, friends, or hosts
- Design a personalised support package tailored to their preferred lifestyle
4. NDIS Short-Term Accommodation (STA)
STA provides temporary support for NDIS participants who need to live away from home for a short period, or while waiting to move into a new home. Stays can be individual or shared with other participants. Supports included in STA may cover:- Accommodation
- Personal care
- Food
- Activities agreed upon with your NDIS provider
5. Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)
MTA is for participants who cannot move into permanent housing due to modifications or other reasons. It is usually funded for up to 90 days, but does not cover daily living costs such as food, electricity, or internet. Personal care and other supports may be funded separately. Note: MTA is not emergency housing or short-term accommodation. Other supports may provide general housing assistance. NDIS may extend funding beyond 90 days if needed with evidence.6. Long-Term Accommodation
Long-term accommodation typically involves stays of a year or more. Providers offering long-term housing are experienced in accessibility standards and addressing the diverse needs of people with disabilities. If long-term housing is not immediately available, medium-term options can be used temporarily. Care Assure is committed to delivering the highest quality care and support.
