Finding the right Path for you
When it comes to gaining a qualification, learning a new skill or completing tertiary education, there are several pathways that can get you there. This can be based on skills or knowledge you already have, or particular training that is required before you can get to the next step. Everyone’s path will be unique, however no matter your goal Care Assure is here to guide you.
We will discuss your goals with you and help in determining what steps need to be taken in order to achieve that goal, what supports will best help you and how to make the most of your Improved Learning budget.
How to get Improved Learning in your NDIS plan
To get Improved Learning in your NDIS Plan, it’s important that you discuss your study goals with your LAC or NDIS planner in your planning meeting. This can be done in your initial meeting when starting your NDIS journey or in your annual plan review.
If you are already studying, it’s important that you outline your current situation and how the additional support would help you in achieving your goals. We also suggest coming prepared with a report from your GP describing the learning difficulties, challenges and barriers you face when studying, due to your disability.NDIS Improved Learning FAQs:
Dyslexia in itself is not covered by the NDIS. However, often certain learning disabilities may co-occur with dyslexia and various supports can be covered in this situation if it is considered reasonable and necessary for a participant to achieve their goals.
The NDIS does not cover tutoring, however it can cover specialised support that helps you build new skills to study and develop a study routine.
The NDIS does not cover school or university fees. This also applies to textbooks and other curriculum-based items. However the NDIS can cover the cost of various supports that allow you to attend and complete your studies.
During your meeting with the NDIS planner, you will be required to discuss your life goals with your planner. For example, if your goal is to study a higher education, after school. To gain funding support for the “Improved learning” category, you will be required to describe your current circumstances, and how you need additional support to maximise your independence and achieve your professional goals.
