NDIS Eligibility
Do you meet the NDIS eligibility criteria?
The NDIS is in place to support people living with a disability in their everyday life and community. However in order to access this support, you need to ensure that the following NDIS eligibility criteria are met. This means participants must:
- have a permanent and significant disability or developmental delay
- be an Australian citizen, or hold a permanent visa; or a Protected Special Category visa
- be under 65 years of age
- need support from a person or equipment in order to do everyday activities
Both organisations are available to help participants navigate, coordinate and access the NDIS, as well as find and connect with the relevant services and support providers within the community and disability sector.
Use the eligibility checklist below to determine if you qualify for the NDIS:

I meet the NDIS eligibility criteria, what do I do next?
If you meet the NDIS eligibility criteria, then you can then apply for an Access Request.
How to apply for NDIS
If you wish to become an NDIS participant, you must make an Access Request by either:
- calling the NDIA on 1800 800 110 and asking to make an Access Request
- completing and submitting the Access Request Form and sending it via email to NAT@ndis.gov.au
During the process of making an Access Request, you will need to:
- confirm your identity and/or a person’s authority to act on your behalf
- answer questions regarding the NDIS access requirements (age, residence and disability)
- answer questions about providing consent to access the NDIS and seeking information from third parties
You may also need to provide additional information about your disability and how it impacts your everyday life. This can be supported with copies of existing information such as letters, reports or a form signed by your current healthcare practitioner.
